We want to ensure you’re prepared to manage any waste you need to dispose of in your term-time residence before you finish your studies, particularly if you live off campus in Loughborough town.
Using your property’s bins
You are provided with two bins at your property, one for refuse (black bin) and one for recycling (green bin). When putting the bins out on collection day, make sure they’re not overflowing and the lid can be shut. You can .
If you can’t fit all of your recycling in your green bin, please leave it in a clear white bag on collection day by the side and it will still be collected. You can check whether .
Don’t forget, your bin needs to be at the property boundary by 6am on collection day, so it’s worth setting a reminder the night before to do it.
There are also other ways to dispose of your waste if you cannot fit all your waste into these bins, including:
- Donating your unwanted items to our Give ‘n’ Go scheme from now until 18 June: Some of your items can be repurposed and rehomed, giving them a new lease of life. From unopened food, working electrical goods and books, to clothes, furniture and household items, you’ll be supporting a variety of local charities.
- Taking it to the : You don’t need to book an appointment, and most items can be disposed of for free. Please check opening times before leaving. Alternatively, you can visit the .
- Book a with the Council for any large items such as kitchen appliances and furniture: Three items cost £25, which can be a suitable option if you and your housemates want to save money and collectively book a slot. Leaving bulky items outside your property will be treated as fly-tipping, so please ensure you do not do this to prevent incurring a fine.
Please note if you do leave any rubbish by the side of your bin or outside your property in an incorrect manner this may not be collected and could incur a fine of up to £1,000 as the council will treat this as fly-tipping.
