How to Backup and Restore SMS on Android Device. You might want to backup your Text Messages before updating your phone to a new or Custom firmware which would wipe your data along with your Text Messages. So I have written this easy guide to show you How to Backup and Restore SMS on Android Device. There is a free Application available at Play Store, which makes it very easy for you to backup your Text Messages and restore them later with a tap.

There are many apps available to do this job but the one I like is SMS Backup & Restore. It makes it very easy for you to Backup your text messages to Internal or External Storage and then restore them later whenever you want. First, I’ll show you how to Backup your SMS and then I’ll show you how to Restore those Text Messages. Let’s start…

How to Backup SMS on Android:

Step 1 – Download SMS Backup & Restore from Google Play.

Step 2 – After it is installed, open it up. You’ll see the following Screen:

Step 3 – Tap on “Backup”. It will ask you to select Internal or External Storage or make a Custom path for Backup. Choose the one you want.

Note: If you choose to backup your SMS in Internal Storage, then make sure to Copy them else where if you intend to perform a Factory Reset of your Phone.

Step 4 – Now it will ask you to name your Backup File as shown below, tap on “OK” to continue.

Step 5 – Backup process should start now.

Step 6 – When finished, it will show the following Screen:

That’s it! You have successfully backed up your Text Messages. Now let’s show you how to restore them.

How to Restore SMS on Android:

Step 1 – Open SMS Backup & Restore.

Step 2 – Tap on “Restore”, you’ll get the following screen:

Step 3 – Select the Backup file and tap “OK” to proceed.

Step 4 – Now it will ask you whether to Restore all Messages or from specific date. Choose the one you want and Tap “OK”.

Step 5 – Next, it will ask you whether to Check for duplicates during the Restore. Tap on “Yes”.

Step 6 – Restore process will start now.

Step 7 – Once the process is completed, you’ll get the following screen:
